Veneer’s younger brother

There are now Lumineers available at many dentists in Essex, which are extremely thin layers of porcelain that do not require any lengthy preparation for the dental job. The downsides to Lumineers are their location limits – they can’t always fit everywhere in the mouth, and sometimes the treated tooth may appear slightly bulky.

In terms of veneer preparation, following a thorough consultation, your dentist will use a tool, called a burr, to shave the front of your teeth to accommodate the veneer so there is no need for tooth extraction. Next, a mould is taken, and the impression is used as a blueprint to create your new veneers over the next couple of weeks to be fitted during your following appointment. Veneers do not offer a universal solution, however. In the case of crooked teeth, orthodontists will recommend a treatment with a view to preserving your current teeth structure. A continued standard of good oral health is also advised: veneers are not a one-stop solution to bad oral hygiene; this will simply lead to them being replaced more frequently and, therefore, the cost increasing.

It’s also important to receive the advice of your own dentist before you consider veneers – like any other invasive dental treatment. You should also ensure you are dealing with a reputable cosmetic dentist, and maintain good oral hygiene in terms of using toothpaste and a toothbrush following treatment.

How Long Can I Expect UK Dental Implants to Last?

Mar 24
2010

Patients who are considering using UK dental implants to solve their dental problems sometimes wonder how long these UK dental implants can last. As a result, patients also wonder if UK dental implants are a good enough value to consider using them for their dental needs.

Thankfully, the answer to these questions is simple: “It depends.”

UK dental implants have been known to last as long as 30 years in patients who take good care of themselves. However, some patients have lost their UK dental implants after only a few years because they have poor dental hygiene habits. As a result, depending on how well you take of yourself, UK dental implants can last in patients’ mouths anywhere from 20-30 years. If this is the case, using a dental implant is a great (and economical!) way of taking care of your missing teeth needs.

On the other hand, if patients have a track record of poor health or poor dental hygiene, patients should first consider improving their health and dental hygiene habits before considering UK dental implants for their missing needs. If that’s the case, consult an orthodontist in advance to learn more about how to get the most out of UK dental implants.

Tummy Tuck: What Can I Expect?

Mar 21
2010

A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a type of cosmetic surgery that helps to get rid of flabby, loose skin in the abdomen area. If you have lost a lot of weight or have excess abdominal skin due to pregnancy, you may be wondering what can be expected with this type of cosmetic surgery.

You can expect to have this type of cosmetic plastic surgery done in a hospital. General anesthesia is administered and patients can expect a hospital stay anywhere from one to three days following the procedure. Because it is a surgical procedure you will be instructed not to drink or eat anything six hours prior to the surgery. However, some surgeons will allow you to drink only water up to two hours prior to the surgery.

After you have had the surgery you can expect to experience some pain and discomfort for the first few days. It could take up to a week before the symptoms go away. Medication will be prescribed for your pain.

You will also notice some bruising and swelling in your abdomen area along with possible residual bleeding. Another common symptom is to have numbness below your belly button. Depending on your reaction to the anesthesia, you may also feel nauseous and experience vomiting.

In the days following your tummy tuck you will need to wear a special pressure garment over the area operated on. This garment will decrease the swelling and aid in healing. Many plastic surgeons will also recommend that you wear anti-thrombosis compression stockings the first few days following surgery to encourage proper circulation of blood in your legs. This helps reduce the chances of a blood clot forming. These garments are worn at all times unless you need to bathe.

During recovery you should avoid straining yourself, along with bending or lifting objects.
