Veneer’s younger brother
2010
There are now Lumineers available at many dentists in Essex, which are extremely thin layers of porcelain that do not require any lengthy preparation for the dental job. The downsides to Lumineers are their location limits – they can’t always fit everywhere in the mouth, and sometimes the treated tooth may appear slightly bulky.
In terms of veneer preparation, following a thorough consultation, your dentist will use a tool, called a burr, to shave the front of your teeth to accommodate the veneer so there is no need for tooth extraction. Next, a mould is taken, and the impression is used as a blueprint to create your new veneers over the next couple of weeks to be fitted during your following appointment. Veneers do not offer a universal solution, however. In the case of crooked teeth, orthodontists will recommend a treatment with a view to preserving your current teeth structure. A continued standard of good oral health is also advised: veneers are not a one-stop solution to bad oral hygiene; this will simply lead to them being replaced more frequently and, therefore, the cost increasing.
It’s also important to receive the advice of your own dentist before you consider veneers – like any other invasive dental treatment. You should also ensure you are dealing with a reputable cosmetic dentist, and maintain good oral hygiene in terms of using toothpaste and a toothbrush following treatment.
